Pros
SCE provides stable employment. Once you get a job there, you are almost guaranteed a job for life. There are a great deal of opportunities for younger workers to replace the baby boomers that run the company. Some designs are being refreshed now after over 50 years. You get a 25% discount on your electrical consumption.
Cons
If you are looking for challenging work, this is not the place. The business is a cost plus model with the rate payers stuck with a bill they have to pay. This tends to inflate project costs, build empires and see wasting money as a way to increase top line revenues for the company. This leads to large teams where few people do significant work, leading to boredom and a drop in overall skill level. One colleague said it well, "Edison is the place you go to lose your skills." Those that actually get a lot of work done become quickly over loaded. All of this is kept very hush-hush as well to ensure that the consumer or regulators never see how much is wasted. The company invests a great deal to avoid any records and ensure their corporate privacy. Working at SCE can create subject you to Moral Hazard.
