Experience depends on area - Contract Manager Southern California Edison Employee Review

Pros

There’s a lot of areas that you can work in and utilities are more stable than other industries. It’s a good business and critical service, and there is potential to make a great impact for the community. For the fortunate, you literally don’t need any experience, education or qualifications for high level positions if you know someone.

Cons

Very political and long standing management. Things are not efficient like government, and there is long standing culture of sexism, racism, ageism, and nepotism no matter the number of mandated trainings. For some, you can promote extremely quickly by not doing anything at all… and those mercenaries normally don’t stick around for long. Those who have the look and love talking get further and quiet hard workers normally get more work and no promotions.

Pros

Pay, they pay very well. Interesting work and SOME very sharp people.

Cons

The department I was in was very toxic. Company claims to be values based but that is a joke. The "leaders" in my OU were abusive and have been reported to HR multiple times by many people. Nothing was ever done. The entire company isn't toxic, its too bad that some of the areas are.
