Pros

I just want to start off by saying I don’t hate Sovos they gave me my first job out of college and I am appreciative of that but I do want people to understand what they are getting themselves into. If you are a recent college grad and do not have much experience this is a great place to start working as it will set the bar low. Any other company you work for after this will most likely be better. It is good though for getting job experience as people are leaving all the time and someone has to do the work so it will fall to someone not really qualified but you will have to learn it quickly and can add it to your resume. Though all the people that work there are really nice and are really the best part. After 1 year you should probably start looking for a job because they will most likely continue to underpay you always. I want to add they have some smaller pros to distract you from the fact you are underpaid. Examples free drinks, Unlimited PTO (I suggest you start a spreadsheet to track your time off so you are taking more than 4 weeks off a year), Events with free beer and food.

Cons

Obviously the major one is pay. You will be underpaid for your entirety of your time working there. I rationalized this by saying they are paying me in experience and that when I leave, I will get my pay day then. Upper Management changes constantly and there is high turnover by people either getting fired or leaving for better jobs but it is hard to know which it is sometimes. You will be given work due to people leaving which you are not qualified for and sometimes the person that knew it fully is gone so there is not as much guidance or help to give you. They sell products that are not fully completed or tested which causes problems for everyone else. They set unrealistic timelines on when things will get done as well. There is not that much communication between departments and people do not really want to take ownership for certain things. The technology they use is out dated and created in the 90s. Upper management is pretty ruthless sometimes with firing people either right before Christmas or right before bonuses are given out.

We appreciate the time you spent with us and agree the people who work here are one of the best parts of Sovos. I want to take a moment to address the points you bring up. You’re right – we provide employees an opportunity to gain experience and develop their skill sets. By hiring for talent fit first and investing in training, we can hire folks who best fit our culture. We invest a lot in training, coaching and support. And while some take their new skills elsewhere, a lot of people use that development to grow here at Sovos. A whopping thirty percent of our employees experienced a job change or promotion last year! This past April alone, we promoted 88 people, and our turnover rates have been historically low. While we pride ourselves on giving people experience that benefits their careers, we don’t consider that as a substitute for equitable and competitive pay. We work diligently to create a Total Rewards package that is competitive in all areas (benefits, commission and bonuses, time off, etc.), as well as salaries that reflect employees’ hard work as they grow their careers at Sovos. I want to address career development specifically, because it seems like that is a main concern. We give people the opportunity to push themselves in their careers. If someone leaves Sovos, our first goal is to identify someone internally who can move into that role. Sometimes it involves training, but we would look to give those opportunities to those who want them. We provide opportunities employees may have never had before, which we consider a strength. We don’t do it because it’s easier, we do it because it’s core to investing in our people. Our leadership team and I remain personally committed to upholding this investment, and we will continue to do so. Best of luck. - Joe

Thank you for sharing this, and welcome to the team! It's wonderful to hear that your recruiting experience set such a positive tone from the start. Cassie is a great example of the kind of Sovosians we are proud to have representing our culture, and knowing she made you feel informed and at ease throughout the process genuinely matters to us. We also love hearing that your first day onboarding helped you connect with our values and get a feel for what we do. That experience is something we work hard to get right, and your feedback confirms it's landing the way we intend. We're glad you're here, and we look forward to growing together. Pros

Being Remote and standard benefits

Cons

Sales leadership is horrendous. New people are brought in not trained, aggressive targets (that have never been hit) usually designed to be the escape goats to protect the old guard. Long tenured sales protects the existing power structures. When results slip, they blame newer reps. New hires don’t hit, quotas unrealistic, weak implementation. Nightmare of a company, the worst I have ever worked at.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. Feedback matters, even when we see things differently. Quota-setting and new hire ramp structures are areas we invest in seriously - they're because we want our sellers to win, not to set anyone up to fail. That's the culture we've built, and it's one I'm proud of. That said, I do hear that your experience hasn't matched that intent. If there are specific gaps in how you were onboarded or supported, I'd genuinely like to understand them so we can keep getting better. Please connect with HR or reach out to me directly. We're committed to building a team where every rep has a real shot at success! Alice Katwan, President of Revenue, Sovos
