Pros
Weekly pay, paid vacation, medical beneifts
Cons
There are not enough hours allocated to any store (I have worked at 3 stores,in Ohio and Michigan) to adequately perform all the duties expected of each employee. Going up the line, most of my managers have been easy to work for and excellent in their management abilities. District Managers have what I call DMitis. Although they may have worked stores years ago, they have forgotten what it is like to be in the trenches. When you get up to the higher level of management, they really don't have a clue as to what goes on in the company. Even the people in recruiting cannot believe the negative remarks made on this site by former and current employees. If I was just starting out in my life and spent a few months working at Speedway, I would start looking for other opportunites. They treat management like slaves. It is almost impossible to get fired from speedway if you are in management because they do not want to pay unemployment. They will offer you the opportunity to step down and if you choose not to, you quit. Than they don't have to pay unemployment. What I don't understand is why district managers try to sweep things under the rugl I could give a few good examples, but that my endanger my position in the company, and since I am not upper management I could be fired! And they would find a way to not pay me unemployment. They also fight paying workers compensation claims. That is something that I totally disagree with. Having worked in insurance I realize the need to investigate, but to put someone in a position who is incompetent in that position to keep from paying workers compensation knowing they were hurt on the job is totally inexcusable. I could go on and on but I think you will get the gist of what I am trying to get across.
