Pros
Decent pay for staff compared to salaries for similar positions at neighboring schools. Mostly collegial colleagues and collaborative work environment. Nice location on South Congresss--not far from downtown and Zilker Park. Austin is a fantastic city to live, work, and play.
Cons
Because it's a private school, enrollment and retention are EVERYTHING to the administration. Anytime there's a fluctuation in enrollment or retention, the whole campus is awash with worry about downsizing. Tuition is very high given the quality of education, curriculum, and resources. SEU tuition rivals higher ranked private institutions like TCU and SMU. Because of the high cost and low prestige of SEU, the top performing students usually transfer to higher ranked schools like UT, which is half the cost and 10x the prestige and resources. Pay raises are not merit based, which means no one is incentivized to do their best. The environment breeds laziness. The Academic Affairs side of the campus is unofficially run by a domineering and untrustworthy person who makes decisions using their ego. People stay at the institution for years because it's easy to get comfortable with the high pay and pay raises. This lack of change leads to stagnation and boredom. The campus is a dead zone after 3 pm.
