Not terrible, could be better - Registered Nurse St. Mary’s Health Care System Employee Review

Pros

Small hospital setting with a variety of care options, close to ATL. Floor staff are very competent and motivated to take care of patients well.

Cons

Compensation could be better. Sometimes feels like upper management cares more about the bottom line than about their people. Nurses are expected to pick up the slack from other areas such as housekeeping, dietary, and maintenance but that seems to be the case in most hospitals these days. Need more night shift support from those same areas - very minimal food options at night for patients or staff, very little facilities maintenance so some items have to wait to be fixed until the weekdays and even then it may take several days, no staff in central supply overnight, etc.

Pros

Great team work, most doctors treat nurses with respect

Cons

Politics can make it difficult at times, not much room for career advancement within the system unless willing to travel or relocate. Lots of turnover from leadership

Pros

Decent pay rates for nurses, incentives, differentials. Great co-workers. Loved my manager & admins there, believe it or not!

Cons

Well they run it like a business, to make a profit and they will quickly eliminate/change what- or whom-ever they need to make keep the cash flowing. Sometimes, (or at least it's how it looks to me), they do it at the expense of reducing patient resources & access to care in rural areas.
