Pros

The name. Beautiful facility. Front line staff. Weather. Potential to be better! Remote work. Comp commute on cal train. Growing across the Bay Area.

Cons

Sometimes I feel like Stanford is actually trying to convince me to quit. All I can do I echo the previous posters comments: bad management. Not sure what it is, but there are just a ton of people who are filling management positions that should be there. I have worked in other companies before (which were much larger than Stanford Health Care) and never experience such a poor management style or org chart. New C-suite in town, but so far nothing to show for it. Politics are crazy and at every level of the org.

We are committed to maintaining our legacy of excellence and we know the only way to do so is to always strive for better. While it’s good to see, you’re taking advantage of some of our employee perks like the Cal Train, we take your frustrations to heart. We work hard to attract and promote the best and brightest talent and embrace a culture of excellence. Which is why we appreciate your taking time to share your perspective. Would you take it one step further and let us know more specifically the management skills and qualities you’d like to see more of? We are optimistic about our new leadership and together, we welcome your input via a personal letter, anonymous employee survey or even a one-on-one meeting with HR.

Pros

Great colleagues, strong APP support network. I enjoyed working with an excellent team, providing clinical care in a highly respected academic medical center.

Cons

They were unable to fill the lead APP position in my department for several years, leading to management issues. A manager from another department took over. Lots of drama.

Pros

The frontline nursing staff and coworkers are absolutely amazing. They are supportive, resilient, and incredibly hard-working people who pull together to get the job done. Additionally, the compensation and pay rates are highly competitive and a definite strong point of the organization.

Cons

The organization is incredibly top-heavy. There is an excess of management and administrative assistants who lack the necessary clinical leadership, skills, or experience to lead effectively. Instead of supporting staff, leadership frequently engages in micromanagement, power trips, and excessive control tactics. It often feels like these control measures are used as a distraction to hide their own slacking and lack of productivity. Morale in some 300P units is low due to a culture of workplace harassment and staff abuse, causing highly experienced nurses to leave in droves. Because of this high turnover, the units are predominantly staffed by new graduates and desperate nurses who stay just long enough to get their initial experience before putting their heads down and quitting.
