Pros

Great stepping stone job. Lots of opportunities to move around inside the organization.

Cons

Too much politics. Way too much nepotism, gaslighting, and gossip happening. High turnover rate and poorly managed. Way too many managers.

Pros

Great colleagues, strong APP support network. I enjoyed working with an excellent team, providing clinical care in a highly respected academic medical center.

Cons

They were unable to fill the lead APP position in my department for several years, leading to management issues. A manager from another department took over. Lots of drama.

Pros

The frontline nursing staff and coworkers are absolutely amazing. They are supportive, resilient, and incredibly hard-working people who pull together to get the job done. Additionally, the compensation and pay rates are highly competitive and a definite strong point of the organization.

Cons

The organization is incredibly top-heavy. There is an excess of management and administrative assistants who lack the necessary clinical leadership, skills, or experience to lead effectively. Instead of supporting staff, leadership frequently engages in micromanagement, power trips, and excessive control tactics. It often feels like these control measures are used as a distraction to hide their own slacking and lack of productivity. Morale in some 300P units is low due to a culture of workplace harassment and staff abuse, causing highly experienced nurses to leave in droves. Because of this high turnover, the units are predominantly staffed by new graduates and desperate nurses who stay just long enough to get their initial experience before putting their heads down and quitting.
