Pros
The environment is friendly, open and upbeat; there is not really the cut-throat competitiveness you would find with other large companies. Also, Staples is very eco concious and does a lot to give back to the community through various events and fundraisers. The fact that Staples is an industry leader and a Fortune 500 company offers a solid impression on any resume.
Cons
One major downside is the difficulty in getting promoted, as Staples tends to hire from outside (presumably to offer lower starting salaries, thereby saving the company money). My own research has revealed that Staples also does not offer competitive pay. Although the benefits are reasonable, they could stand to offer more vacation time and time off during inclement weather. Additionally, I feel I am forced to take on outside responsibilities that are beyond the scope of my position (and for which I am not getting paid). This is due to poor management and lack of accountability on certain areas of the company (ie- Merchandising).
