Pros
It is a great opportunity in terms of a first job. The training is decent and starting pay was better than I expected. They kinda work with you on hours. Great working environment.
Cons
The Staples company as a whole is pretty good but there are some downsides. First off is the move to push (and by that I mean they want you to be persistent in your endeavor) the Staples Rewards Program. They desperately want to push this. Even being an associate I don't like the program. I hate the deferred credit idea they have. Customers don't like to wait and they shouldn't have to. Technology is as such that it would allow that when people get ink and paper they should go ahead and get the 10% back. I guess I should rephrase this by saying, the rewards program is ok as long as they do away with the deferred stuff and just move to an instant savings type of deal. It makes me wonder why they push customer service excellence and then they pull the rug out from under us by doing the deferred rewards and all those rebates on items. They leave the associates out in the cold by doing this. People don't want the answer "That's a decision corporate has made and there is nothing that I can do myself". The next best thing to do there is to pass that to a manager. It just doesn't look professional when this happens.
