Pros
- Diverse workforce and clientele. - Experience working in a crisis setting helping individuals work on substance use disorders and severe mental health conditions. Feels fulfilling to help clients experiencing homelessness find housing and resources.
Cons
- Complete lack of support for clinicians. In the time I worked at SBHG there was never a clinical supervisor on-site, my supervisors changed several times in the span of months with all supervisors being clearly overworked and unable to support. - Racism is swept under the rug by this organization because of understaffing, they won’t address serious issues with staff because they can’t afford to fire any clinicians. - Work load is incredibly high. DMH paperwork on top of intense case management responsibilities. There is a lack of transparency about how much case management is required in this role, it is the majority of the position while still needing to complete therapy sessions + lots of paperwork each week. - Upper level employees treat the CRT like a client mill, trying to get any client in even if they don’t meet qualifications for this type of treatment. This leads to safety issues and high amounts of client elopement from facility. - Lack of professionalism from staff creates lots of issues with clients, I often had to spend time talking clients out of leaving because of being mistreated/disrespected by other staff. - Upper level staff encouraged unethical behaviors for the sake of hiding issues from DMH. - Pay is okay, benefits lacking. Pay is somewhat standard for DMH contracted clinicians but not commensurate with job responsibilities at all. - Lack of staffing leads to safety issues.
