Pros

- it's relatively easy to move up in the company. - the system is such that if you luck out and work for a great agent your experience on the day-to-day will be considerable more bearable. it's certainly not difficult work, it takes customer service skills, computer knowledge, and (for those who aspire to actually be good at the job) the willingness to spend extra time resolving customer issues, because that's what is supposed to separate state farm from companies like geico and mercury.

Cons

-state farm is HORRIFICALLY run. this is not hyperbole, i am amazed that it has maintained relative success. their policies are asinine, the home office is nearly completely incompetent, and the clients are growing increasingly frustrated with the ever contorting, highly inefficient structure. i cannot stress enough to run, not walk, away from this company as either a customer or employee. -it is also relevant to mention that despite working with the company for nearly four years, i never received any benefits of any kind.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
