Pros

Insurance is a stable business and State Farm is number 1 in Property and Casualty insurance. The people, as I would consider, good people with friendly values. It's nice to have a secure job in times of layoffs. SF has a pension plan which puts them into a small group of employers offering retirement security. Health care, dental plan, and eye care plan are nice benefits. State Farm headquarters is located in a small community location which is nice.

Cons

Can be very boring work at times. Sometimes a lack of future vision or changing due to some consultant or upper management decision which tends to chew up money. Management considers delegating most responsibilities to the next level below them. When you need direction it tends to be on the analysts shoulders.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
