Pros

⸻ Role Review: Financial Analyst During my time in this role, I gained solid exposure to core financial reporting processes and cross-functional collaboration. The position offered valuable hands-on experience with month-end close activities, variance analysis, and working with large data sets. However, there were notable challenges on the support and leadership front that are important to highlight. Key Concerns: • Lack of Training & Support: One of the most significant drawbacks was the lack of structured onboarding or ongoing training. Senior officers were often unavailable for guidance, which made it difficult to ramp up efficiently. Much of the learning had to be self-directed or obtained informally through peers. • Limited Engagement from AVPs: Many Assistant Vice Presidents (AVPs) consistently logged off early or were not actively engaged in day-to-day activities. This created a noticeable gap in leadership presence and mentorship, which is especially problematic in a complex reporting environment where junior staff rely on senior input for development and issue resolution. Work Culture: • The team had intelligent and capable individuals, but the overall culture leaned heavily toward independence without the necessary infrastructure to support that autonomy effectively. • There was a tendency to prioritize deadlines over development, which may suit experienced hires but presents challenges for those early in their careers. Summary: This role may be suitable for someone who is highly self-sufficient and has prior experience in financial reporting or analysis. However, for those seeking mentorship, collaborative leadership, or structured career development, the current environment may fall short of expectations. Clearer expectations and more active involvement from senior staff would significantly improve the experience and effectiveness of the team.
