Lack of actual diversity (especially with senior editors/management) "Senior/lead" editors lack seniority or actual expertise on the topics they edit Management can be rude (one manager during an audit said "there must be a language barrier" when going over an article I edited - I know that NYC might seem like a foreign country to someone based in the Midwest, but that doesn't make me a foreigner). Another food manager could not write for her life, but would complain if there was one typo in a 3000-word article. I stopped grabbing YouTube articles due to the same attitude. Getting articles back due to one error with a comment questioning my editorial expertise, only to figure out that the writer was correct the first time, really started to get on my nerves. It seems like many senior editors/managers do not understand that most workers for this company are freelancers under contract. We are not employees, and it's actually against the law to treat us as such. After nearly 3 years of working for this company, I made the mistake of offering to be transferred to another vertical. I then received nothing but negative and condescending feedback from the lead editor who had very little experience working on the topic that we were editing. I was then put on "temporary oversight" after only a few months, even after I told her I was having personal issues, which included an injury. She also repeatedly accused me of doing things I never did, blamed me for the writers' mistakes, and then let me go right before she went on vacation for July 4th. Her own feedback didn't even follow Static Media standards and it seemed like she was making things up just to fire editors and writers. She would also accept writers' pitches, then blame them (and me) for not following directions sometimes months after the articles were published. Other writers were leaving in droves. It will get to the point where there will be no one left to work on that site except for her due to the negative environment she created. I was almost relieved when she let me go so I would never have to deal with her again. I worked with three other senior editors who were pretty chill, and I have no idea where this lady's ego came from.
