Pros
SDI is a growing company. The entrepreneurial spirit really does thrive in this company. The divisions and plant locations are staffed with some of the smartest guys I've ever met. If you need to be told exactly what to do every step of the way and not step once outside of your normal routine, this is not the company for you. SDI encourages teamwork and self-starters.
Cons
The company has been chastised by its employees for its lack of communication. There have been team openings all over the company but the other divisions don't know it because there is no intranet or other communication medium within SDI. Corporate office HR group has launched Yammer which is supposed to address some of this, but they admitted that it was done with little vision or planning. The other con is that if you are not accustomed to incentive pay structures, it takes some getting used to. The base wage and salary at SDI is below market because there are lots of incentives - weekly and monthly production bonuses and quarterly ROA bonuses, plus an award of profit sharing and stock units which all add up to above market for the respective job, if the performance is there.
