Pros
My customer pod and WFH was truly the best thing about working there.
Cons
There’s a plethora of things I could’ve said in this category but I will keep it to these three main points: 1. Whenever I summarize my time at STORD I say “it was cool until it wasn’t”. We all recognized an immediate shift in the Springfield freight office from a small start up with lots of potential to a management dumpster fire within what felt like only 2 quarters time. I kid you not folks when I first started working there we got free catering three times a week. That quickly disappeared one week and the next we were being asked to rotate an on-call schedule for afterhours issues. At first they tried making everyone do it without compensation then after enough pushback, compromised with a free PTO day the following week of you being on-call till 9pm including weekends. That’s cool until you realize company policy is unlimited PTO anyway. By the way that unlimited PTO? Yeah that’s not including federal holidays. 2. For some reason the upper management failed to identify the risks associated with hyper-growth strategies during an economically turbulent period of time in our country. That’s a shocker (if you thought your market analytics were competent before think again). Revenue wasn’t growing proportional to the business and soon represented a bloated shell of itself with high turnover. With each quarter leadership became more and more apathetic when employees asked to do above their job description were struggling to keep their heads above water. As a result morale plummeted and people quit working hard. 3. “It’s you and I until it’s you or I” feels too accurate for the mentality these upper managers have established. I was one of the few that made a conscious effort to show to company social hours and make relationships with my coworkers outside of work. I reiterated to leadership constantly how I wanted to be a “culture warrior” and help the company grow as I grew. Turns out that didn’t really mean much when one Thursday morning I log on to see an email from the CEO from late the night before vaguely inviting me to join a one-way zoom conference to “join a company wide all-hands to discuss the strategies moving forward” but strongly emphasized that I needed to join on my own device. I was laid off with about 60 others at a moments notice and was unemployed by 10:30. I honestly felt relieved knowing the stress and anxiety this place brought was over. Also pretty sure my job got outsourced to a Colombian staffing agency they use for dispatch work. Just a wonderfully personable cherry on top to the steaming pile of disappointment this start up turned out to be.
