Pros
THE RESIDENTS! Without question! So as not to disclose protected information I will simply say “the standards” set forth in writing, by which to work and live. Standards I still have on my wall at home. The notion that I was working for such a well respected organization. Thinking I was contributing to the lives of the people (residents) that had paved the way for so many. The smiles when you recognize their name, not the apartment number. The setting...class and elegance. Being proud to tell people where I worked. The possibility of moving onward and upward because StoryPoint takes care of their own. All of this brought me excitement and enthusiasm. All of the above were pros...
Cons
The cons...that I foolishly believed the standards were upheld and practiced. To listen to the people, yes people with names that paid rent, belittled and often dismissed is unacceptable. They are the grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles and others who’ve provided us what we have. They deserve at the very least common courtesy. Be careful to mention that to a superior and anyone you’ve come to believe would at least acknowledge your concern. The notion of promotion quickly disappears, as does any respect for your work. I was definitely contributing, but not to those I thought. It was to a culture that promotes those that mind their manners and prohibits those who don’t. Leaders provide tools for improvement and example. Not with “that’s not my department”. This review is not that of a disgruntled employee, but of someone saddened that the focus is not on those for whom it was meant. Look at the book cover and it’s beauty, but read the entire jacket and research the author(s). You may be surprised.
