Pros
Some of my favorite co-workers were there, and some wonderful department managers.
Cons
I should say this is for the Van Til's in Hammond, IN that is not affiliated with the rest of Strack's and is run by Frank Van Til. The higher up managers don't care about you. They don't care that everything they're asking of you is a physical impossibility with the staff given. It is, for example, impossible to keep the place clean and sanitary during peak hours and also take care of the customers. Often you have to choose between the two, only to have management come over and yell at you for the task you had to neglect. Their response to us saying we need more staff is just "work harder" I should state I was making about $9.00 an hour and paying an amount of that to our union dues. The union there is atrocious, frequently operating by cutting benefits from new employees, while claiming "don't worry, nothing will change for YOU"... and then doing everything they can to make the old employees quit so they don't have to provide those benefits to anyone. Rinse, repeat. Management will choose the customer over you every single time, and this has lead to the most toxic customer base I've experienced in all my years of customer service. Rewarding terrible customer behavior (even at the detriment of profits) is the norm.
