Pros

None, working at headquarters was awful. The turn over is so high due to poor management and terrible people. Those who have been there for a while think they can do whatever they want and treat people any way they can. The HR/Recruiting team can’t do their job, and treat everyone like garbage. No one in HR is qualified to do the work they do, and the people in recruiting are mean and know-it-alls. (this is strictly headquarters employees, the contract sites are separate)

Cons

Everything, terrible pay and benefits, management is awful. They will hire you for one position then change your title and make you do something completely different when you start. (this is strictly headquarters employees, the contract sites are separate)

Pros

The role provided valuable exposure to mission-critical configuration management in direct support of United States Navy submarine maintenance and operational readiness. I gained hands-on experience managing ship configuration records, including ship selected records, configuration status accounting logs, technical variance documents, departures from specifications, and liaison action requests. The position allowed me to apply and expand my prior military logistics experience in a civilian contractor capacity. I collaborated closely with engineering, planning, and logistics departments, which enhanced cross-functional coordination and technical communication skills. This assignment also offered meaningful insight into shipyard operations and integrated logistics support systems while contributing to operational readiness in a fast-paced, high-priority defense environment in the Indo-Pacific region.

Cons

The primary challenges involved working within a newly established detachment that lacked sufficient infrastructure, including designated workspaces, government-issued computers, and consistent administrative support. The contract experienced high turnover, unclear role definitions, and limited onboarding, which created delays in mission alignment and productivity. Communication between the contractor, host command, and support teams was inconsistent at times, which affected workflow efficiency. Despite these challenges, I remained focused on completing all assigned deliverables and supporting the operational readiness of the detachment.
