Compared to similar institutions, the pay and benefits are very good. I also had the opportunity to work with some great people at the campus level.
Cons
Where to begin? First of all, don't be fooled- this is NOT a professional librarian position. As an LRC Manager, you will provide onsite tech support, proctor standardized tests, and serve as a glorified babysitter. I would say that less than 10% of the job involves actual library work. You will work long hours and strange shifts, and when there are tasks that need done that no one else on campus wants to do, they will usually fall to you. Because you do not actively make the company money, management will not value your work, nor will they support you by providing any opportunities for professional development. You will probably work with some very good professors, but as academic-minded individuals working at a for-profit "university," you will feel like square pegs trying to fit in round holes. First and foremost, Strayer University is a business that exists to make money for the shareholders, and they do a good job of not letting academics interfere with that goal. The actual work the LRC Manager does is so menial (and the entire proprietary college system is so frustrating) that I would have a hard time recommending this job to anyone.
