Pros
Remote work (that's about it). I did enjoy my students very much.
Cons
Poor/unlivable teacher wages Extremely high student numbers * Unrealistic timeframe for graded assignments * Heavy workload and teaching schedules * Many non-instructional tasks (such as homeroom duties that would be done by a front office in a traditional brick-and-mortar school). * Enormous push to have a good passing rate-- priority is given to passing rates over student accountability and accurate grading * Counselors are given non-counseling duties so much so that they aren't available for true counseling services for students. * CEO is paid 4 million dollars a year while teachers are paid in the lower 40k range. * Poor, unreliable technology and equipment. Laptops are provided to teachers, but they are old and often crash throughout the school year. * Stingy travel and meal reimbursements that create hardships for already underpaid teachers when required to travel for work to assist in state testing. * Health benefits are unaffordable.
