Pros

The travel was nice, the autonomy was nice, and the use of technology was refreshing, after having worked in an office/ cubicle environment for several years. The district meetings were fun, and the vision of the company was worth promoting.

Cons

However, the workload was insane and it seemed like they just kept piling more and more on you... Forget about taking a sick day or planning a vacation. I ended up cancelling or postponing vacations so many times, and when I finally did take a long weekend, it seemed like all hell broke loose and they really began micromanagement at that time. The customer service base back in Phoenix can make or break your monthly sales goals, and my customer integration manager was horrible. She sent more nasty emails than my worst enemy, and clogged my Blackberry instead of just calling and clearing up miscommunication.

Pros

The individual contributors you work with are fantastic people and the products we work on are really interesting and have significant impacts on patient care.

Cons

Sports Medicine has unfortunately changed from a dynamic and collaborative group to one being led by toxic leadership. Rather than working together and trusting team members, they now have an in group and out group. If you’re in the in group, you can say anything you want without being questioned and be automatically trusted even when your track record says otherwise. If you’re in the out group and your message doesn’t align with what the leadership wants to hear, then you are automatically wrong and not to be trusted.
