Pros
Certain managers did fight for your best interest even if they couldnt always get what you wanted, i.e. more money, they'd fight for more time off.
Cons
Information was not always shared as freely, departments were way too silo-ed and often aimed to meet their goals as opposed to the overall goal of a project/or the company as a whole. Too much inter-departmental fighting and blame-passing. Very little if any career advancement for those trying to move upwards.
