Pros
- Genuinely good people across the firm, however many are not in leadership positions - Strong vision for helping people afford the care they need. It was always a joy to help people and that was carried by the whole company. - Will learn a lot and grow skills fast, though skills may not always translate to roles outside the company - Hybrid schedule: 4 days in office, 1 remote day (Friday)
Cons
Overall, a toxic environment due to top down influence. Did not feel comfortable sharing my opinions or feedback. Never felt set up for success. Felt that the most important aspect was making the leader look good rather than improving the company. - Constant switching on what is deemed "important". Didn't see a clear strategic vision for strong growth. Projects felt more reactive than proactive. Data is used in a primitive way and didn't feel that leaders actually knew how to read or organize data for insights. This is particularly alarming for a VC-backed company. - Poor mentorship: often felt like your own development was not a priority. Example: most people often better at certain tasks, but rather than putting them on projects for success they try to fit square pegs into a round hole with zero coaching. - Unclear expectations/goals and micromanagement can leave employees confused and unmotivated. Additionally no clear metrics to measure your performance, so reviews often felt completely subjective - more about your personal relationship with manager. - Poor work/life balance: basically expected to make this your entire life. If you are hourly, this is an actual 40 hours where every second you're extremely busy trying to meet unrealistic goals. Salary wise expect to work on weekends and nights. - Rare growth opportunities in terms of compensation and promotions - Company is cheap, expecting to pay below market rates for people to take on ownership that would be a level or two above their skill.
