Pros
There is a LOT going on at Komen and lots of professional opportunities. The mission is three-fold: research, public health and public policy - this is not a one trick pony organization. Komen is moving toward providing services directly to patients rather than through grantmaking, which is a huge change to the business model, and offers opportunities for staff to actually build this new program and craft the future of the organization. Many team members have a personal connection to the cause, which helps keep mission front and center. It's gratifying to see firsthand how the work helps patients first, but also pushes science forward. Lots of flexibility - the entire organization is now work-from-home and accommodates all of the challenges we have with COVID-19, like dealing with kids and spouses at home and working among some chaos. The benefits are awesome, and include really, really good health insurance (so important right now).
Cons
It can be a very fast pace environment, and working from home is not for everyone. There are no plans to go back to an office and many of the in-person events can't happen, so that community feeling is tough right now. Like everyone else, I'm all Zoom-ed out.
