Pros
Some of the best on air talent in the business work here. Great to get along with. Bonus given out every November but they tax the mess out of it with 401k.
Cons
lack of leadership makes it impossible to feel any growth or fulfillment out of this newsroom. HR is non existent. There is a ticket system which during my employment I have entered numerous tickets for HR many of which were ignored. Tried to be forced working with people I was uncomfortable with. Tried to be forced working on shifts I was uncomfortable with. No empathy from management when I brought up my concerns for this. Ive been called names by coworkers that you aren't allowed to say on TV for just doing my job. Ive been screamed at with no repercussions for those involved. I've asked for help and weekly meetings for my own development that never came to fruition. My newscast didn't matter in the sense that I hardly got material for it. Even though I grew viewership, my opinions weren't valid to management that was in place during my time of employment. There is also high turnover. My 6 month review was a ambushed 5 minute conversation. They put you on call over weekends with no compensation and expect you to drop your well deserved time off for work if necessary. They ask for what weekend days work best for each employee (but they change the schedule on you without informing you. ) Every year they hold surveys about what employees think and never listen to or take action on feedback. If you value any semblance of work life balance you will have a tough time finding enjoyment here. When I entered my 2 weeks, the gm and hr reached out via email to reprimand me and never once asked why I was leaving nor did anyone in upper management wish me good luck.
