      Pros

      TEGNA embraces creativity. They reject the stereotypical news style and want to create content that viewers truly value and return to. This creates lanes for the multi-skilled journalists to explore, allowing them to test boundaries of traditional news programming.

      Cons

      The lifestyle is not great with schedules consistently changing due to various reasons. Obviously, the pay in local news is poor. As I told a former news director, reporters are paid enough to survive, but not enough to live. You have to love the hustle and bustle of local news or else you will hate this line of work.

      Flexible work environment - hybrid

      Cons

      Heavy workload, way below market compensation for the amount of responsibility, very limited advancement opportunities & uneven workload distribution among teams. In my experience, leadership made repeated statements about promotion opportunities in career growth that ultimately did not materialize. I felt that expectations were set that weren’t followed through on, which made it incredibly difficult to trust leadership. Transparency and follow through on career development could be significantly improved.
