Pros

The company (and especially the Montreal Solutions Center) has changed a lot since I first started. The culture of long hours is gone, the work load is more balanced. The technical team is great - highly qualified professionals who also become friends. There are a lot of training opportunities, possibility for tuition and certification reimbursements. There are real efforts to get the right tools for the job (which was very difficult just one year ago). The projects are fast-paced, challenging, cutting-edge - very good opportunities to sharpen your technical and communication skills.

Cons

One of the core values - "Servant mentality" - is often taken to the extreme, especially when negotiating project budget and deadlines. Very often the recommendations and concerns are ignored while the very same technical people are held accountable for the successful delivery. The compensation package also leaves something to be desired - salaries lower than average (even for Montreal), medical and dental insurance get worse every time they try to "renegotiate". Overtime policy is very hard to understand and even even harder to get your overtime approved. Growth opportunities - while there is a clear path for software developers, very often talented people are passed on because of office politics, personal conflicts or family situation. Performance reviews - vague and contradictory, no clear expectations are set.

Pros

- Decent pay to start. - Account manager is responsive, engaging, and a serious advocate for you and your contract. - Gain access to Udemy Business to build more skills.

Cons

- The benefits suck. - High recruiter turnover with highly variable experience trying to work with them-- some are good, most are not. - Once you are placed, you will be promised regular meetings and then never hear from the recruiter again. - Trying to find a new contract if you are unhappy with your current placement is nearly impossible and I don't believe they are incentivized to help you move at all. - You have to manually request a raise and depending on how you negotiated your contract, you may or may not have the ability to receive one. - There is a cap to how much they will pay you for the contract so even if you work that position 4 years, once you hit that cap you are stuck. I originally submitted my resume with TekSystems when I had finished my degree and never heard back. Many years later, I was approached on LinkedIn by a TekSystems recruiter for a position and he had no idea I was in the system previously. Working with him was good, and I did get the position. Then I never heard from him again and I've had 4 or 5 different recruiters whose names I could not tell you if I tried since then. There's supposed to be monthly calls, they never happen.
