Pros
There is decent money to be made and you don't have to be intelligent to work here. You can move high up in the company if you stick around long enough.
Cons
Where do I start? The pay is good, but you get so little of what you actually deserve/bring into the company. You're extremely limited as to where you can sell and what type of companies/skill sets you can sell. Management will force you to give YOUR business to other sales people in the office if it's not what you're supposed to be focused on, or just to help another sales person they feel needs it more. Then they'll tell you that you need to do it to be a team player and do what's best for the office and that good will come back to you in the future (wink wink). You can make a lot more money generating the same amount of business but working for the competition. Plus you would be able to pay the IT professionals more money and have them happier doing business with you. And how can I forget, they cut commissions company wide last year. Oh yeah....there's that too. The NY office is one of the top in the USA, and it produces big numbers. Wow, so good right. But when you actually look at the averages of each person within the office, you'll notice that more than half of everyone working there is below company average and not making the kind of money they promote. Management cares more about your productivity than total business. Here's another stat they'll never tell you. The average person there only stay with the company for 18 months. They'll probably tell you they fired those people for lack of performance. Right. Go ask those people yourself and see how many were fired versus left on their own. The office culture is a joke. Now, I'm sure every office is different, but in the NY office it's hysterical. It's one giant click where half the people in the office have slept with someone else there (some people multiple times). If someone doesn't like you, they'll make sure no one else does and make your stay at TEK less than enjoyable. It's like the 3rd grade all over again. Have fun with that. Some sales people are pretty good, but most of them are mediocre at best. There are a few who have been there for so long they can't bring themselves to leave b/c it's too far outside of their comfort zone. They're so set in their ways and lose business b/c of it every day. All of these decent sales people are supposed to be the ones you go to for advice and guidance. Any great salesperson would know to ignore most of them and laugh (inside of course) when you blow pass them in sales. Upper management is more than unimpressive. It's as if a couple of not so intelligent, but hard working, guys got together, started a company, and got super lucky they did so at the perfect time in the market. Then, as the business grew, they hired all of their friends to be in charge under them. It's like frat house of the blind leading the blind. (yes I said frat house....almost everyone in upper management is a male). The more intelligent you are, the more frustrated you'll be working at this company. Especially when you hear the so called leaders speak. If you're going to work for TEKsystems, make sure you don't mind political b.s., are ok making less money than you deserve and can put up with inept management.
