Pros
The people you work with are great.
Cons
They have no problem at all interpreting federal working hour limitations in a way that involves violations. Management will outright lie to you. Items that should be normally handled with discipline get blown way out of proportion if caught by OIG. Over a 4 year period I saw 4 good people get fired for items at any other utility would be addressed with discipline. If you aren't from here or aren't a yes man you will never get promoted. They will honestly argue over one hour of OT. Once I had been there for 12 hours, something happened to the plant and they told me I had to stay over night then because I was the duty manager I'd have to stay over on days too. Managers never see their people, many never make an effort. Nuclear Safety is not a priority. The operating staff at a nuclear facility needs to be paying attention to the reactors, not babysitting the craft and collecting data for Management Review Meetings. Operators spend 90% of their effort and time doing stuff that has nothing to do with operating the reactors. You will never, and I repeat never get vacation. The Design Basis issues concerning flooding and dam breaks should sincerely scare the public. Especially since TVA Management from the plant level up turned a knowing blind eye to them
