Pros
Great benefits, competitive salary for the area (not the industry... especially considering the govt. pay freezes)
Cons
Let me start by saying that I'm a second generation TVA employee. I've seen what this company used to be, and what it has become. Once a great economic enabler for the valley that took pride in its work an employees, now a dismissive, poorly-managed, no-morale wasteland striving to cut a dollar, no matter what it means for employees or the local community. Job security is nil - people are constantly worried that they will be the next one out the door, Multiple regime changes at the top-levels of management have create a stream of chaotic, poorly-planned reorganizations, as there is no clear vision. When it comes to filling a position, the grass is always greener on the other side. There's a running joke that to move up at TVA, you have to leave and come back, and it's not far from the truth. The entire company is operating in what feels like a perilous limbo, making it hard to get anything actually accomplished. For the last 4 years, there's been some kind of "organizational realignment". As an employee, the stress of wondering whether your job will be cut is tiring and stressful, and resources are no longer available to encourage professional development...
