Pros

Used to work with a lot of great people. Pay is decent in comparision to similar jobs. Discount is good, but still not enough to buy clothing. Customers are awesome!!!!!

Cons

In all my years of retail, I have never come across a manager displaying such blatant favoritism. Upon being with the company she had a staff meeting that was not canceled the day of Hurricane Irene, risking the lives of all of her staff. One of her first hires was a close friend of hers, that she hired as management level. Employees are requested to clean bathrooms, but company does not provide insurance opportunities to those who work the hours to deserve it. All of the diseases and nasty things in the bathroom should be taken care of by people who make the money and are provided with health insurance. Sales associates are expected to call customers in if business is slow. Talk about nerve!!! If they had the money, the time, or the urge they would be in the store. The CEO/head of the company still has a job after saying that basically Talbots customers aren't sophisticated enough for the fashions the store is putting out. How about Talbots is not making the right clothing and it is their own fault. Stop passing the blame. Associates do their jobs and then some with no appreciation. Getting breaks is impossible and employees are often left in the store by themselves, making it not possible for use of the restroom.

Pros

None. This company is garbage compared to how it used to be.

Cons

Slave wages, not enough hours for anyone except management because the private equity company that owns us has cut our staff to a skeleton crew even on busy days. Management and associate alike are stretched super thin to the point of exhaustion. Even as a sales associate, there was a time I supported myself on a Talbots salary. Now I have to choose between paying my car insurance or getting an oil change. I used to get 30+ hours a week even as a sales associate. Now I'm lucky if I get 20. Health benefits are a rip-off. The company in my observation has had a time finding and maintaining good workers. If you value your livelihood, run fast and run far.
