Pros

If you're a customer, Talbots is great. Great product, great environment, good pricing.

Cons

If you're a store manager, the selling environment is challenging at best. Customers are very price conscious and looking for discounts. Don't be surprised to have a single customer seek multiple price adjustments for prior purchases. Staffing can be challenging due to the low hourly pay for sales and sales support staff . $10-$11 and hour to start might work in some areas, but in higher cost metropolitan areas, it is too low. And, the perpetual sales environment cannot be dismissed. Because customers are so expecting regular discounts it is nearly impossible to sell merchandise at full price. Without adjustments to sales plans to account for the continuous discounts, it is nearly impossible to meet sales goals and achieve bonus, even during the Holiday push.

Pros

None. This company is garbage compared to how it used to be.

Cons

Slave wages, not enough hours for anyone except management because the private equity company that owns us has cut our staff to a skeleton crew even on busy days. Management and associate alike are stretched super thin to the point of exhaustion. Even as a sales associate, there was a time I supported myself on a Talbots salary. Now I have to choose between paying my car insurance or getting an oil change. I used to get 30+ hours a week even as a sales associate. Now I'm lucky if I get 20. Health benefits are a rip-off. The company in my observation has had a time finding and maintaining good workers. If you value your livelihood, run fast and run far.
