Pros

Remote work, quality psychiatrists Some flexibility in constructing your schedule and hours you work

Cons

Company has grown way too top-heavy. The marketing approaches are undermining the integrity of the clinicians and people are routinely censored for speaking up and voicing dissent with the C-suite folks. The focus is on getting people in the door and not on sustainability. The lack of admin support and myriad billing issues make it difficult for patients and clinicians to maintain long-term treatment relationships. They initially promised a cap of 3 to 4 new patients a day, which was quickly raised to 6 new intakes per day. This is not quality care for anyone and a sure recipe for a burnout. Patients are often surprised by large bills since initial screening is lacking and short cuts are taken to have people seen quickly. The base salary is shockingly low, and the incentivization model is lacking in transparency and almost impossible to sustain if you ever want to take a vacation, day off, or just not see back to back patients all day every day. Company promises to be different than the current existing profit driven models and it sounds like it started out that way with more equitable pay for the people actually bringing the money in i.e. the psychiatrists. Over time, the admin staff has grown in volume and profit, while the already low base salaries have actually decreased and incentivized pay is even harder to obtain and sustain. It’s a good idea and mission statement. However, it doesn’t work if your staff is not treated well. It becomes an unhealthy model for the Psychiatrist, which is not good for anyone. You can do better. Be a little less focused on your own incomes, share a little more of the profits, give time off without impacting salary, so it is truly time off. Be a part of the solution, honor your original agreements and intentions. No one, I mean no one doesn’t see you.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns. We take this feedback seriously and have deployed a number of processes and products to solve for some of the challenges you have referenced, including a tool that allows for more visibility into productivity and incentive compensation. While most of our Psychiatrists are highly successful and productive, our model is not "one size fits all" and what may be ideal for one provider, might not be optimal for another. We are committed to structuring an environment that meets the needs of our clinicians and always welcome suggestions and recommendations as to how we can improve. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations as an employer, and wish you all the best in your next venture.

Pros

The work is straightforward. The clients are mostly reasonable. I prescribe a lot of stimulants in states where I can prescribe them. The electronic medical record and the resources contained within make it easy enough to do it. A good job at this. They offer the use of an AI scribe to help with documentation. You can be involved as much or as little as you want to in activities beyond direct patient care. Talkiatry chooses to make its money through the use of the psychotherapy add-on code. You're incentivized to spend time talking with your patients, which seems like a win for everyone.

Cons

Figuring out how the performance portion of the pay structure works is challenging and takes several months. You also take a significant hit in taxes because of the the back that the performance portion of your salary is paid as a bonus which is taxed at 30%. This is higher than the base pay tax rate. I'm hopeful that I'll see the significant tax return next April.
