Pros

Employed almost 2 years with Talkiatry and have been very pleased with administrative and operations support as well as responsiveness to concerns and suggestions. Support staff is also exceptional, including IT support. After practicing in multiple settings including inpatient and outpatient for 32 years have enjoyed this practice the most. Talkiatry allows me the ability to connect with patients and enjoy minimal administrative and non-clinical duties. This company promotes and allows for work-life balance in a way I have not previously experienced. Accepted this position at the end of the COVID pandemic to allow for at home telemedicine care for patients. Have been able to select the types of patients I enjoy treating as well as create the schedule that works best for me. The communication at Talkiatry is exceptional. Have been able to directly interact with senior management, all of whom are extremely approachable. Have felt valued as a practitioner and employee from hire date to present. The opportunities to challenge myself as a clinician are present daily.

Cons

As a telemedicine psychiatrist there is limited interaction with others in person, though that is typical of psychiatry in general.

Pros

The work is straightforward. The clients are mostly reasonable. I prescribe a lot of stimulants in states where I can prescribe them. The electronic medical record and the resources contained within make it easy enough to do it. A good job at this. They offer the use of an AI scribe to help with documentation. You can be involved as much or as little as you want to in activities beyond direct patient care. Talkiatry chooses to make its money through the use of the psychotherapy add-on code. You're incentivized to spend time talking with your patients, which seems like a win for everyone.

Cons

Figuring out how the performance portion of the pay structure works is challenging and takes several months. You also take a significant hit in taxes because of the the back that the performance portion of your salary is paid as a bonus which is taxed at 30%. This is higher than the base pay tax rate. I'm hopeful that I'll see the significant tax return next April.

Pros

The work is manageable. There's no unreasonable metrics, and the pay is just right for the role.

Cons

Maybe some of the managers who'd like to impress the bosses like you know what I mean.
