Pros

Great people in the IT Department who were really tight, helped one another out, and generally worked super well together to keep the company from imploding. Immediate supervisors/managers were also stellar people. Company was pretty fair in pay, and definitely fair in equipment expenses. Severance package was also fair considering the revolving door of layoffs. All in all, the direct team I was in was a joy to work with.

Cons

C-Level needs to get rid of CTO immediately to forestall him sinking the company. His retention seems purely out of some sort of nepotism, since it certainly wasn't skill or charisma. Full department meetings were agonizing due to his. C-Level also constantly made poor upper level personnel decisions, necessitating no less than three layoff periods during my tenure. C-Level also was not transparent with realities company was facing, and the last layoff period burned a number of bridges as well as any goodwill towards the company leadership. Overall, the favoritism and appearances were more important to them than the employees.

Pros

The work is straightforward. The clients are mostly reasonable. I prescribe a lot of stimulants in states where I can prescribe them. The electronic medical record and the resources contained within make it easy enough to do it. A good job at this. They offer the use of an AI scribe to help with documentation. You can be involved as much or as little as you want to in activities beyond direct patient care. Talkiatry chooses to make its money through the use of the psychotherapy add-on code. You're incentivized to spend time talking with your patients, which seems like a win for everyone.

Cons

Figuring out how the performance portion of the pay structure works is challenging and takes several months. You also take a significant hit in taxes because of the the back that the performance portion of your salary is paid as a bonus which is taxed at 30%. This is higher than the base pay tax rate. I'm hopeful that I'll see the significant tax return next April.
