Pros

- Coming from a high-tech background, I was nervous about moving into a startup environment but candidly, I’m happier than ever. The culture here is collaborative, supportive, and you really feel your impact. - Strong sense of purpose: you see the direct impact of your work on expanding access to mental health care. - Leadership is approachable and genuinely open to ideas, even from newer employees. - Fast-paced environment where you can take ownership and grow quickly. - Good flexibility with remote work while still keeping connection across teams

Cons

- As with many startups, priorities can shift quickly, so this world requires comfort with ambiguity and change - Processes are still maturing, so sometimes you need to build as you go - Workload can be heavy during high-growth pushes, but there are definitely slower weeks to recoup

Pros

The work is straightforward. The clients are mostly reasonable. I prescribe a lot of stimulants in states where I can prescribe them. The electronic medical record and the resources contained within make it easy enough to do it. A good job at this. They offer the use of an AI scribe to help with documentation. You can be involved as much or as little as you want to in activities beyond direct patient care. Talkiatry chooses to make its money through the use of the psychotherapy add-on code. You're incentivized to spend time talking with your patients, which seems like a win for everyone.

Cons

Figuring out how the performance portion of the pay structure works is challenging and takes several months. You also take a significant hit in taxes because of the the back that the performance portion of your salary is paid as a bonus which is taxed at 30%. This is higher than the base pay tax rate. I'm hopeful that I'll see the significant tax return next April.
