Pros

When I first joined Tanium, I genuinely enjoyed my role. The environment was fast-paced and often chaotic, but the work was engaging and I had the opportunity to collaborate with some great colleagues. Early on, there was a sense of energy around the company and the mission, and many people were motivated to contribute and grow.

Cons

Over time, the culture and leadership transparency deteriorated. Leadership regularly hosts town halls and all-hands meetings that invite employee questions, but clear answers are rarely provided. Responses tend to be vague or overly polished, leaving employees with more confusion than clarity. The company has also gone through frequent layoffs that are often described internally as “reorganizations.” While restructuring can happen at any company, the frequency and framing of these changes has created ongoing uncertainty and has negatively impacted trust across teams. Career growth can also be frustrating. Advancement does not always appear tied to clear or consistent criteria, and many employees feel that promotions depend more on visibility or internal politics than performance. As a result, employees are often encouraged to be patient about future opportunities that may never materialize. More recently, leadership has appeared to rely on retention incentives — including quick promotions or compensation adjustments — to encourage certain employees to stay amid growing turnover. At the same time, colleagues and long-standing team members have been impacted by ongoing layoffs. This dynamic has created a difficult environment where many employees feel the culture has become increasingly toxic and unstable. There is also a noticeable gap between the company’s stated values and what employees experience day to day. Messaging emphasizes teamwork, integrity, and doing the right thing, but many decisions made by leadership do not reflect those principles. It is also worth noting that the company was recognized as a “Great Place to Work” several years ago, but employee sentiment today feels very different from that period. Morale has declined and many long-tenured employees have left. Finally, despite ongoing speculation about a potential IPO, the company has remained private for more than two decades, and leadership provides little clarity around long-term plans.

Pros

I've worked for Tanium over 5 years and have seen a lot of change. The pace is fast and the teams are small so if you want autonomy and ownership this is a great place to work.

Cons

They're constantly reorging, it would be nice if the exec team could make up their mind on how they want the org structured and stick to it. They tend to do whatever other "hot" companies at the time are doing. The founder still plays a massive role and the c-suite just seem like his puppets. No one wants to be in office and ppl constantly complain but no one in leadership listens. It used to feel like they cared about what the employees say, but now everyone seems beaten down and just does the work so they're not laid off. Pay is also low compared to competitors. You have a decent annual salary but no bonus and no IPO in sight. You'll get RSUs but the price keeps going down with a promise to go back up. I've only seen it go down in my experience so just be mindful that whatever your base salary is (unless you're in sales) is going to be your total earnings.
