Pros
Tantor was bought by Recorded Books at the beginning of 2015 and has come a very long way from the reviews I see posted here back in 2010-2011. The friendly atmosphere and coworkers of this place are always what have made it special, but as the company grows, opportunities and benefits for employees are slowly but surely expanding as well. It seems like new positions are opening up in the company almost weekly in order to meet new production demands - so job security is great, as all hands on deck are essential. Managers are very supportive and interested in you as a person, not just the work you do for the company. Overall fun work with reasonable deadlines. Awesome amount of PTO. Seasonal/quarterly events and activities such as walking challenges, bake sales, or charity drives hosted by a wellness committee that liven things up month-to-month.
Cons
Pay is fairly low. Insurance options are not great and the "best" one takes a sizable chunk out of your paycheck (if you are under 26 and still on a parent's insurance, stay on it while you can). Also, a majority of the employees and managers live very close by in the area and often seem to downplay the impact of snow for those who have a 30-45 minute commute. Sometimes it seems like a giant chasm could crack open the earth to release the dead from the underworld while fire rains down from the sky and the office would stay open and the next day at least one person would comment that the roads were fine when they came in that morning.
