Unprofessional Management Makes for an Unstable Work Environment - Student Operations Officer Tapingo Employee Review

Pros

Pay is good at base, has potential to be excellent for a part-time job, flexible hours, easy to get hired with essentially no interview process, freedom to deliver whatever way works best for you. If you speak only when spoken to and never vocally have any problems with the management you'll be just fine.

Cons

This company is like some kind of fan forum from the 'naughts with an admin and mod team that only make changes they're comfortable with, expect their posters to be perfectly fine with, and ban anyone who isn't. Notice how those forums died pretty quickly? I used to be an SOO (student operations officer) for my campus, which meant I had some management responsibilities and powers. Not long ago they made changes to their scheduling and management hierarchy, which first of all got rid of the position, but then changed all of the shifts for the next couple weeks, which deleted the existing shifts. They gave very little to no advanced notice about this and as a direct result, many people who had secured work for the next few days were SOL. Remember that part when I said good pay and flexible hours? Yeah, that's when you can GET those hours. Every time they're posted it's a mad dash to take the limited amount of shifts, which means if you're not around when they're posted, you can easily miss out on an entire week's worth of pay. Dissatisfied with their lack of qualification for their changes, I made a carefully worded open letter and posted it to the group chat on Slack where the whole company bases its operations (the free version, by the way, and had just moved to it from using Google+ Hangouts.), and got largely positive reactions from my fellow couriers, multiple around the country that probably had never even heard of me. A few hours later, my account was disabled, by whom I have no idea. My other accounts to work have been left untouched, and the few hours I was able to get for next week are still there for the time being, but I've heard nothing from the management regarding their actions, having once again wordlessly made changes. I'm currently waiting on feedback regarding my status as a contractor, but this is scaring me to say the least. I've been effectively silenced for criticizing, constructively even, the functions and operations of the company, and it's realistic to think that I'll have gone from a good financial and managerial position to unemployed in less than a week's time for no reasonable fault of my own. EDIT: They did fire me after all.

Pros

-Schedule yourself -10/hr -When there are 0 orders you are paid to sit on the couch 👍 -Everything is communicated through Slack

Cons

-Getting paid (they can't seem to figure this out) -Mentions on paycheck "as always tips are included on your paycheck" but you will never actually get paid your tips (seriously it's so sketchy) -The company functions off of company debit cards (PEX-Cards) which tend to fail at the register leaving you to foot the bill, and do not expect a company refund for at least 2 weeks -Management needs to be managed, most managers have never worked as Tapingo couriers and often have outlandish expectations -Tapingo does not partner with most restraunts leaving restraunt management irritated when they get swamped with to-go orders, especially when Tapingo is running specials -Food pricing is most-of-the-time inaccurate -Provided 1 sick day in 7 month period -Provided 0 breaks when working 8 hr shifts -Couriers tend to wait to pick up orders until the last possible minute, causing a game of chicken over who pick up which order -Tapingo support WILL spam your phone while working making it impossible to use your GPS, let alone your phone as a whole -Getting harrased by rude customers -Sketchy delivery locations -Employees fight for shifts -Promised "special pay" during events and then never receive the "extra pay" -Everything is communicated through Slack -The delivery app works a qtr of the time
