Pros

There really isn't much to say positive. If you are in the IT field and in the DC area you have a smorgasbord of companies to work for. This is a small company that I feel wasn't started in the best of intentions.

Cons

Many of the current employees are family members. Wives, brothers, sisters etc.... Then you have a level of friends for those family members. So it's kind of like the Verizon friends and family plan of business (LOL). This makes it real hard to advance because your not going to replace someone's sister/brother/wife. They will always get preferential treatment over you in every way. It's just one big joke. The company gives everyone the "impression" that they care about employees (parties etc...) and are generous to employees, but in actuality they spend money on the things that "look large" and very little money on the things that matter (wages, benefits).

TekSynap Response

At one time there was great pride in a company being family-owned and operated. Synaptek does, in fact, have a limited number of qualified family members employed in the company. Our approach has these individuals reporting to someone outside of a direct relation and they are held to the same high standards as other employees. The "Nepotismtek" moniker, while clever, does not really apply, as family members makes up approximately 5% of the workforce. Advancement in the company for all employees is tied to corporate growth enabling new opportunities. We have been able to consistently promote internally as we have added new programs. Synaptek does deeply care about our employees. In a competitive market we offer strong compensation and above average benefits. I encourage you to contact me directly about your experience with the company. I am always open to constructive criticism on how we can improve as an organization. Pros

TekSynap promotes a culture that emphasizes caring for its employees. The company hosts regular events such as annual gatherings and provides holiday gifts, which help foster a sense of community. Compensation is a strong point, with salary being one of the most attractive aspects. Benefits are competitive with industry standards, including a medical PPO plan, dental and vision coverage, up to a 6% 401(k) match, $15K in education benefits, and 20 days of PTO starting out.

Cons

Leadership is weak and often prioritizes contract renewals over supporting employees. There is a clear disconnect between the corporate messaging in monthly communications and the reality on the government contracting side. Compensation limits, offer letters, and pay structures are frequently used to justify requiring salaried employees to work extended hours and weekends. Leadership does not address the underlying issues and instead continues to apply short-term fixes rather than implementing meaningful, long-term solutions.
