Tech is a great employer for grad students. - Graduate Assistant Texas Tech University Employee Review

Pros

There are not many employers in Lubbock that can compete with Texas Tech when it comes to flexibility of schedule and opportunity. As a graduate student, there are plenty of internships, GA positions, and research assistant positions available. Also, the opportunities are pretty limited if you do not work for Tech. Unless you enjoy waiting tables or answering phones in a call center, there aren't many other large employers in Lubbock.

Cons

The only downside is there may not be a job specifically supporting what you are studying, so you may end up with a job that has little to nothing to do with what you are studying.

Pros

The job itself isn't very demanding, if you have a general knowledge of computers/IT, you'll do fine.

Cons

the only con is whenever there's big waves of accounts or specific times of the year, it can get pretty busy.
