Pros
The Broad offers a stimulating environment with very brilliant scientists and staff. Training is self-oriented, and self-directed. It has a flexible schedule, and strong work/life balance in most cases. It is a dynamic and creative atmosphere.
Cons
Many scientists are too busy on their own projects to manage their staff effectively (many of whom don't even receive reviews at the highest levels). The gains in flexibility can put a commensurate drag on everyone. Reporting structures often make no sense. Development at Broad is rare and promotions are also few and far between. Many job families are outdated and do not reflect actual jobs since the split from MIT in 2008 (!!). The growth of the organization has outpaced its structure for strong personnel management and management training.
