Pros

Great people. Co workers are awesome and always willing to help. I feel like they handled the pandemic well making sure the safety of all employees was top priority. 50/50 office a d work from home model is in force now which is good. Nice lunch perks. Most folks tend to stay here until retirement.

Cons

Salary is below average for the industry. Other companies pay out way more. Underwriting training could be a lot better. They do not train for old systems as it is going to be “phased out”. I have been here 3 years and the old systems are still in full effect. You are expected to just know how to use said system and when you are asked for additional training you are just told to ask a team member for help. Your manager definitely determines how successful you are on the job. Different managers required different things of you for the same role. Pray you get a manger who doesn’t micro manage you. This company puts their agents first. Before their employees and reasoning. You are expected to say “how high ?” When ever an agent needs you to jump. Be expected to always be by the phone and if you go to the bathroom and miss a call be quick to call back. But not too quick because you will be accused of screening calls. If it is your nature to keep to yourself and learn on your own this role isn’t for you. This is an introverts nightmare. Trying to find information in the intranet is extremely difficult. You have to ask your teammates for help. Sometimes even going through 4-5 people before you get the answer. Moving to a different department is extremely hard. You will be told you are better suited for advancement in your current department. So don’t take this job thinking you can move to a different area in the company. You won’t. If diversity and inclusion is important to you this may not be the place for you. To put in perspective my underwriting training class had 40 people in it … only 1 POC. Zero work life balance. It’s nearly impossible to only work 8 hours a day especially during January 1/July 1 renewal time. If you have kids and value your time with them RUN! The company is great if you find the role that best suits you. If Underwriting is your jam this is a good place to be. Even if the pay is lower.

Pros

I love my territory, my direct manager, and my team. I enjoy my coworkers. The lunch stipend is nice. I’ve had a lot of really great mentors during my time. The company had given me some good opportunities including free continuing education and career advancement.

Cons

The pay has been lower than the industry standard. The benefits are decent in the long term, but the raises for those growing within the company are almost insulting. Any attempts to negotiate are shut down. Bonuses have also been on the low end, although I recognize they aren’t a given. Paid time off is also somewhat limited with slow increases every 5 years. Upper management has changed and I don’t feel it’s been positive. There has been low morale and high turnover. Starting pay has remained stagnant despite increased demands of returning to office which I feel contributes to staffing difficulties. Cost of gas, car maintenance, and work attire have now cut into wages. The company felt like it cared about its staff when I started, but I have begun to feel like a cog in the corporate wheel. Corners are being cut in the name of “efficiency,” however the foundational flaws haven’t been addressed.
