Pros
For a Supermarket-they are pretty good for long-time associates, if you are part time or a newer full timer-the benefits are still okay, but not as good-older associates are "grandfathered" is several policys that are beneficial to us long termers, but I'm not sure it's entirely fair to newer hires.
Cons
Work/Life balance. I am a department manager and under our new initiative "Thunder", we are to be more friendly with customers, have better prices and better selection. Well, what is actually happening is that the higher ups have introduced several very good programs but are failing to support them with the labor dollars they need to be successful. James McCann might have a very good idea with Thunder....but he has to loosen up the purse strings to ensure us folks at store level can implement his vision. The problem with our company is that the corporate office probably is full of folks covering their buttholes and being "yes men/woman. Here's a tip Mr. McCann, come visit a few stores by yourself at different times of the day and night. Don't dress up in a suit and tie, just wear casual clothes. You aren't going to like what you see. I'm sure you've been in several of our higher end competitors stores? I'm betting most of our competitors spend more money on labor and actually care about their employees instead of trying to work them to death to hit an unrealistic labor percentage. I'm glad I have less then 10 years left until retire.....I just hope I can survive it.
