Pros

The biggest pro is working on the ground towards the vision and mission of this organization! From top down the goals are the same, and in my experience leadership has been humble, transparent, and encouraging. I was greeted with kindness and compassion on my first day, and every person I interact with in this position is just as amazing and collaborative as the first day I met them. In practical terms, my work from home position affords me more flexibility than my prior employment. I work a 40 hour work-week, but with trust from my leadership and continued progress towards our goals, the times during the week that I complete this work can vary depending on what is most needed from me in my area. I have also been poured into professionally which has genuinely helped me develop useful skills and mindsets. I've grown in my role and feel confident that I'm becoming a more valuable employee every day because of what leadership continues to pour into me both professionally and personally.

Cons

Practically, there are not considerably large enough cons associated with the function of this organization for me to fairly include in my review. Every job has it's adjustment hiccups and hurdles, but in each of these I have received the direct support and encouragement I need to grow. I have been frustrated in roles before and felt at a loss when it came to what leadership really wanted from me. I do not feel this way, and haven't for the almost year I've been here. The only con I would say is that in the nature of this ministry work, there can be some discouraging circumstances you will relatively regularly face that are not preventable! You cannot force others to see the importance of what this ministry facilitates, so the downfall comes in the nature of trying to advocate for something good in a broken world. This is something, however, I think the organization has equipped me well to face! They continue to provide resources on things such as preventing burnout, and they continue to encourage in seasons where the nature of the work can be discouraging.

The Global Orphan Project Response

Wow — thank you for such a thoughtful and encouraging review! We’re deeply grateful to hear how your experience has reflected the heart of our mission and culture from day one. It’s incredibly affirming to know you feel supported, trusted, and poured into, both personally and professionally. That’s the kind of environment we strive to create, and it’s team members like you who make it possible. You also name an important truth: ministry in a broken world brings both meaning and challenge. We’re so thankful you feel equipped and encouraged to navigate that tension — and we’ll keep showing up to support one another through it. And… we couldn’t agree more — Shelbi is a gem! Thanks for all you do to serve with courage, humility, and excellence. We’re honored to have you on the team. —The GO Project Team
