Pros

The owner is a UA alumn, and will sometimes visit the location and greet everyone, which is cool. The company stands for great things. Most managers were very helpful and responsive as well as friendly, which made for a better work environment. For the most part they try to make it feel you are part of the Halal Shack family. They are adamant about upholding halal standards and are actually very clean and organized, which can't be said about many other restaurants. They hire A BUNCH of students to be able to fill the different shifts and work around students' schedules.

Cons

Some of us get used to it, but some other co-workers found it difficult to handle the food pans at such high temperatures, which we constantly had to carry and switch out. They do have oven mitts but using bare hands (with only sterile gloves) is normalized because searching for and reaching for gloves takes time, and it is a fast-paced environment for the most part. Most of the work besides actually serving the food, is very physically demanding work. Having to constantly lift heavy boxes from high shelves or low areas and constantly bending down to pick up things and clean things throughout the shifts. The amount of work, however, is not being fairly matched by the wage. Taught me to never kill my back like that again for only $11/hr. Know your worth!

Pros

The Halal Shack is a real-life “people first” company. There is a strong sense of pride around hospitality and creating a welcoming experience for customers and employees. This cultural ideal isn’t just a talking point but shows up in how the team supports each other day to day. So far, I’ve seen the team be accessible, collaborative and open to feedback. One of the most rewarding parts of working here is the ability to make a visual impact. The company practices a growth mindset and team members can have meaningful ownership over their work and opportunities to step outside their traditional roles. I would say that the is a perfect place for anyone looking for build and problem solve within a fast paced environment.

Cons

With growth comes change, Processes and systems evolve. It’s a great environment for people who can easily adapt in a fast pace environment and enjoy seeing their effects build and improve this growing brand.
