Pros
I love this job! I’ve never worked anywhere that was so welcoming of what I consider diversity. For me diversity is not just about race, nationality, or the color of someone’s skin– it’s about generational differences, tattoos, earrings, religious beliefs and practices, sexual preferences, genders, and more. They have such an amazing representation of all those groups within their organization it’s truly amazing. And for a small company it really shows that the owner is committed to equal opportunities. He is completely open and accepting of all his employees. I feel safe, comfortable and accepted here. I still remember the day I asked the owner Kevin St John about his beliefs regarding diversity he told me my felt that different personal experiences and backgrounds bring a broader and more rich variety of perspectives. He said that he believed that a well-rounded team resulted in better problem solving and more creative client focused events. I was blown away by this concept and still think about what he said. Ok, so diversity is obviously super important to me, but so is having a good time with my co-workers. Of course, we plan, produce entertainment for parties so there is always a good time in that. I’m not saying it’s an easy job, but it is a lot of fun! Although I have to admit the hours are pretty long on summer weekends and I’m looking forward to a break soon! Finally, I do want to say something about how COVID effected my job. The event ban was really difficult and most of us didn’t have much work for an extended time. When we were able to start back to work, the owner and entire company was focused on safety for everyone. We had masks, hand sanitizer and no one was asked to work if they were uncomfortable. The owner spoke with me multiple times during the pandemic and was very understanding of my situation. I didn’t come back until I felt safe and I really apricated all the planning and care he took to make sure that we all were comfortable when we did return to the events. Thanks Kevin!
Cons
Working Friday, Saturday and Sunday events can really be tiring after a while. The money is great, and I know it's only that way for a few months, but I'll be happy to see it slow down.
