Pros

Awesome co-workers, many health based incentives, decent benefits, health office on campus, beautiful campus

Cons

The culture here can be tough if you're new and not from the area. Many hourly employees do not have a good work/life balance. I often see people (non hourly) from other departments glide in at 9 and leave by 3. Lots of passing the buck and dumping work on other departments all while getting the glory while those that worked hard get nothing but more work. Lack of respect to those hourly staff that work hard and are rewarded by being asked to work harder. Little to no regard that we have lives outside of work. People that have been at JAX for many years are definitely treated differently and given preferential treatment and often work in childish cliques. Not a lot of room for growth. The parking situation is absolutely absurd and at times dangerous. Not a lot to do on and off season. Traffic is a bear during tourist/road work season.

Pros

Good pay and benefits are decent

Cons

Long commutes with tight time accountability due to newer rules. No more leniency for weather or traffic related tardiness that is common in Maine. Constantly changing rules and expectations are making the job impossible. Failure to meet new expectations lead to no finishes or raises or tuition reimbursement. Forced overtime in Ellsworth location with so.e employees being sent from Bar Harbor to cover. Seems like a sinking ship and I would not recommend anyone I liked for a job here.
